A new obsession
Can't stop thinking about this:

It is Blithe from Kim Hargreaves' new collection Shades of Pale. I wants it.
Here is the problem though, I can't just buy the pattern. I have to buy the full kit. From England. In Pounds. Ugh. What a hassle.
If I do buy it, I am thinking of one these colors...
Manderin:

Steel Blue:

Aubergine:

What do you think?

I don't see the hassle...you just give them a CC and in a few days you'll be knitting' and be happy and then you can wear it. Doesn't that all sound good?

i love that too. but yeah the sterling to $ conversion is a KILLER. i am partial to the neutral color. but then again aubergine is hard to resist...

No wonder you can't stop thinking about it - it is beautiful and would fit you perfectly.
I would go for a lighter colour to show off the pattern. I think a darker one would look just like any other vest.

I love it! Very cute! I'm not that keen on having to buy the yarn and all from her, but if you're going to do it, then do so. I like Manderin and Steel Blue. Both are pretty.

mmh, but the package comes wrapped so beautifully, like a present! I think steel blue would look fab on you.
Posted by: Steph | 02/28/2007
I had the same problem! I am eyeing Ali and emailed Ms. Hardgraves with the whole "can't I just buy the pattern and not the yarn?" and she actually responded politely saying "unforutnately, no." I still love it and will most likely be getting it anyway! I agree with Steph - I like the Steel Blue!

Manderin. You know you're gonna get it.
Posted by: Katherine | 02/28/2007
Oooh, you bad linking linker! I hadn't seen this site before, and there are all kinds of lovely things there!
So, I'll be the enabler and say, you know, the prices of the kits really aren't *THAT* bad, and think of the convenience factor! That said, I like the aubergine.
Posted by: Kim | 02/28/2007
P.S. Do you think they photoshopped that model, or is she really actually THAT skinny?
Posted by: Kim | 02/28/2007
I vote steel blue, followed by aubergine. You should totally make this, it would look terrific on you.
Posted by: David | 02/28/2007
You have to knit that! Any of those colors too!
Posted by: tiennie | 02/28/2007
Aubergine
Posted by: susan | 02/28/2007
Such a cute pattern! I have seen many of the patterns that I like on there, but the whole kit thing is not economical. She would make more money if she had an option to sell patterns alone!
Posted by: Lolly | 02/28/2007
buy the kit!! to be honest i've been lusting after it myself....how cute is it!
just as clarification, the reason kim doesn't split up her yarn and patterns is that although we think of her as a big name famous designer, since she left rowan she is basically a small business owner. the cost of writing, test knitting, printing and producing the patterns alone would never be compensated just in pattern sales so she has to sell them as kits or else her business won't last.
i've purchased from her and if you have any problems you get a personal email back from kim or her mum kathleen within 24 hours. the customer service is exceptional!
ok...i didn't mean to rant.
steel blue or aubergine! beautiful!!!

Aubergine is my first love, but the steel blue would look great with your skintone and eyes. ;)
Posted by: Stitch-n-Snitch | 02/28/2007
Now I want to knit this too! AAah!! I like all of those colors.
Posted by: Melissa Ryan | 02/28/2007
I tried to just buy a pattern too but ended up purchasing the whole kit. Too bad. I'm sure if she would just sell the patterns themselves she would do much better business.
I love this top! I hadn't realized she has a new collection. Aubergine would be nice...

Hubbs says if you can pay via paypal it does the conversion for you!

I say blue. I think it would make your eyes pop. Plus I think after the orange of glee you need to go on the other side of the color wheel. However I would do Aubergine too. But that's since Purple is my signature color...
Posted by: Cassi | 02/28/2007
Steel Blue or Aubergine. Steel Blue is a great color for you, but the purple would also look great.

too cute ~go with manderin the steel blue is too close to color and style of your molly ringwall
Posted by: annzy | 02/28/2007
Oh, it's very sweet. I like the Aubergine best.
Posted by: Amy | 02/28/2007
I love that vest, I want it too.
Posted by: yvette | 02/28/2007
What a great pattern. Go with blue - I agree w/ others that after Glee that would be a good different direction.
Posted by: Amy Artisan | 03/01/2007
Isn't that so frustrating? I love all her stuff so much too but it ends up being like 2 or 3 times as much as I would usually pay because of the exchange rate. She's just trying to rip us off!!
Posted by: Sarah | 03/01/2007
Ooo that's pretty. I think the blue would be a good choice. :) Thanks for the link too.
Posted by: Julie | 03/01/2007
what a great sweater - and thanks for the link to all those other cool sweaters also!
Posted by: Teyani | 03/01/2007
hmmm, i like the mandarin...but i also like the steel blue...and that aubergine would look great on you too...ok, so now that that's settled... ;0) ok, ok just one? mandarin. there, that wasn't so hard...phew! but seriously i could see you in any of them...
the conversion rate is a shocker for us aussies too. i have wanted to order a couple of kits too, but i just can't afford it! maybe one day when i am rich and famous i can have them all.
Posted by: vera | 03/02/2007
Steel blue would make you look stratospheric! I love aubergine, but not on you. Negatively ompetes with your stunning shade of brown hair. So mandarin is the second choice.
Posted by: Lark | 03/02/2007
Steel Blue = Stratospheric look for you!
Posted by: Lark | 03/02/2007
1) Mandarin
2) Aubergine
Skip the blue.
Posted by: jeff | 03/02/2007
aubergine.
fo' sho'.
Posted by: Rachel I. | 03/02/2007
Delurking to vote. My fave is the aubergine, but I think the pattern my show up better in the steel blue. So, I vote steel blue. Great pattern!
Posted by: Jennifer | 03/02/2007
I swear it is like you read my mind! I love that pattern too! And I too am detoured from purchasing it because it only comes in kit form and the conversion of dollars to pounds is high! But I do love it. I say Manderine, even though you just finished Glee in an orange color. Too bad Kim wont just start selling her patterns.
Posted by: Stefanie | 03/03/2007
Delurking!
You've got it stuck in my head too. I've visited the Kim Hargraves site 1000 times since I saw that pattern here.
I wants it!
Posted by: Kateastrophe | 03/04/2007
Congratulations on finishing Glee! I like it in the lighter color scheme. I wonder if you could find it in a Canadian shop? The exchange rate might be better there...
Posted by: Debby | 03/06/2007
Go with the aubergine -- I mean, come on, how cool of a word is "aubergine". That should be reason enough.
