Long time coming: Glee

I started Glee last summer.  Like in July.  It was going to be my fab fall sweater.  I even knit it in orange to match the falling leaves.  I don't know why I didn't finish--most likely it was the monotony of stockinette stitch that distracted me.  After many months on hold I finally picked up Glee again in January.  It has been done for a couple weeks now but it took me a while to get the hooks sewn on and pictures taken.  I guess everything about this knit was meant to be delayed.

So here you go, my perfect fall sweater, just in time for spring...

I told you it was orange.  The yarn I got at Estes Wool Market last year and spent much time holding it up to my face and pestering my sister and strangers at the booth with, "are you sure I can pull this color off?"  and "it's pretty right?  Right?  So why did you hesitate?"  Sometimes I just need to chill out.  The color is fun and I love it.  The yarn is a 100% alpaca and is oh so soft.  I wish I could take a picture that shows how soft it is.  Take my word for it will you?

medium_glee_collar_up.jpgThis sweater is great.  You can wear it with the collar down (as above) or up (to the left).  I think I am more of a collar down girl but it is nice to know there is the option.

Here are the details:

Pattern: Glee

Source: Zephyr Style.com

Yarn: Larkspur Funny Farm, 100% Alpaca, Yam

Needles: US 3 and 5 bamboo circs

Mods: I added some waist shaping but other than that none.medium_glee_side.JPG

Notes: The one wish I had for this sweater is that it was longer.  The pattern calls for it to be a bit longer but I ran out of yarn in the end and knit until I literally had about 10 inches of yarn left.  Not the end of the world--just something I would have done differently if I could. Other than the length, I am really pleased with this project.

Yea for a finished Glee!  Finally.

Wow...where did all that snow come from? The Glee looks wonderful on you...nicely done Erin. Did you sew on those hooks all by yourself? I am so impressed!

VERY NICE Erin! Love the colour, but then orange is one of my favs!

Glee looks great! It will be a great spring sweater indeed & just think how much you'll enjoy it later this fall as well. :)

Very cute! I was thinking of making that but wasn't sure about all the stockinette either.

Posted by: Meredith | 02/25/2007

Great job! I love your color choice - you can definitely pull it off:)

When I first saw this pattern, I wasn't so sure of it. But the way you knitted it and modeled it - it's beautiful! Now, I have to buy the pattern too.

I love it! You look fantastic, as usual.

And the length isn't that bad! I like it over something...red would work, too and might tone down the orange a bit. It looks like a fun sweater to wear. Good work!!

glee looks fantastic! and i've got to hand it to you...you can indeed pull the colour off!

the one major positive about running so close on yarn is that there is nothing to stash bust later on.

You are the queen of sweaters out of itty-bitty yarn and teensy needles. It looks great!! :)

I've noticed quite a few just-finished Glees in knit-blog land lately, so you're in good company. :)

Love the orange color on you too! Do you like the hooks? Were they a pain to put in?

I just finally finished a knit that I started in August.
Your Glee is super cute; I love the orange. You can definitely pull it off. I have some yarn for Glee. I will hopefully start it next month, so it is nice to see the different shots of the collar.

That is lovely! I'm going to have to be good and not buy that pattern yet, I'm working on enough other stuff. But you make Glee look very tempting...

What an impressive photo shoot! What are you doing OUTSIDE in the snow with just your Glee on?! Wow, you're committed.

Glee is gorgeous!

YAY for orange!!! it looks perfect! good color, good project, good yarn, good job!

how's the HR monitor? looks to me like you've already lost some weight, no? still got my fingers crossed for you to win!

So pretty! I dowloaded that pattern a while ago, but haven't decided on a yarn for it yet. The orange looks awesome on you!

Posted by: bunchkin | 02/25/2007

Yummy orange alpaca!

I love it.

Posted by: Coralie | 02/26/2007

It looks terrific! The color and fit are very flattering.

Posted by: Kathy | 02/26/2007

Actually, I think it's really cute at the length that it is. You know, now it seems like sweaters are only "in" if they're really short or really long. No more perfect length I guess!

Posted by: Erin | 02/26/2007

It looks great! You are really good at knitting flattering sweaters.

Posted by: Katherine | 02/26/2007

You look great in the glee! You are right though after seeing that beautiful yarn in person the photos don't do the lovely softness of alpaca justice.

Posted by: annzy | 02/26/2007

yay! it's beautiful! the colour looks really great on you. and it looks soft to me...mmm really nice and soft... and i don't suppose it matters: fall, spring, winter, it's done- yay!

Posted by: vera | 02/26/2007

Gotta love the orange! Glee looks great! You've sold me on the pattern. Now I have to make one for me.

Posted by: Bear Knits | 02/27/2007

Beautiful! I love the color and the fit looks great! (popped by via Lolly!) makes me want to cast on now!

Lovely!

Posted by: margaux | 02/27/2007

You look so cute in it! The color actually works on you. I love it. You also look happy in it. Nice smile. : )

Posted by: KatherineOfItAll | 02/27/2007

Glee looks fabulous on you! Bravo!

I couldn't carry off that orange, but you sure can. Admired the pattern - now, I'll have to get it, too! Am thinking of joining the 2 fronts sooner/higher, to avoid the hook/eye attaching. And I love mindless miles of stockinette, find it very soothing.

Posted by: Petunia | 02/27/2007

Oooh, looks great! I love those zephyr designs. I think the orange looks really nice on you!

Posted by: Kim | 02/28/2007

I love the orange!

Posted by: Julie | 03/01/2007

Great color and it looks fab on you!

Posted by: keri | 03/01/2007

Ha, it's all your doing! I downloaded Glee AND, while on the site, also got Green Gable, the one with the YOs at the neckline! Checked with "knitty daughter" and she also liked both patterns. I'm thinking cotton-blend here, warm sunny weather, spring colors. Now I'm trying to convince myself to "go to the stash" rather than the LYS.

Posted by: Petunia | 03/03/2007

Yes you did! You pulled it off. The orange is fabulous - that brown tee underneath pulls it all together. Nice job!
