Big Loser

So my co-worker and I started this competition at work.  The Biggest Loser.  You know, like the reality show.  I am sure you have heard of people doing it--at my work each competitor gives $20 to join and after 8 weeks whoever loses the highest percentage of body weight wins all the money.  We had 22 people sign up.  That's 440 dollars.  Yeah, I am all over that money.

I went out this weekend and bought a heart rate monitor.  I remembered reading this post from Lolly a long time ago and it made an impression on me.  So I bought the exact same one she did.  That's not strange is it?

Anyway, this heart rate monitor is awesome.  It tells me how many calories I burn and how long I stay in my target heart rate zone.  It is like my own personal trainer yet in the form of a cute pink watch.  I love it.

My goal on the plan isn't really to lose weight...it is to win.  Losing weight is just a bonus.  What is it about competition that gives me more motivation than anything else?  I have sized up my competitors and figured out what I need to do to win and I think I can do it.  I am doing it all very healthy-like which is more important than winning I know.  Just slightly.

Beyond the competition, I am excited to be on a plan.  I am within healthy and normal weight ranges but I have long wanted to take things a step further and see how I could change my body.  Why not right?

So I share my plan with you to hold myself even more accountable.  I promise I will keep you appraised even if I fail.  Which I won't.  This is going to be fun.  At least that is what I need to keep telling myself.

I am sure you will stick to it and even if you don't win, you probably will be in the best shape of your life.

I am sure has to count for something! And yeah, I kow 440 bucks is a great motivator too.

Good luck.

Hmmm . . . aren't you forgetting to tell one little part of the story, Missy? The part about the pre-game warm up. ;)

Heart rate moniters are possibly the best tool to use when you are working out. You are not getting aerobic exercise unless you are at a certain heart rate and having an instant read moniter lets you know immediately where you stand. Good luck to you grrl!

Hey, yeah, I bought the exact same heart monitor after reading about it on Lolly's blog too! Isn't it great?! Makes such a difference in your workouts to know how hard you are working. Anyway, good luck with your challenge. I always think you look so great, but it's always good to push yourself.

I'm cheering you on! What great motivation.

Once again, you and I are on the same track. I just joined Weight Watchers (2 weeks ago) and have already lost 5.4 pounds. There are a whole bunch of people doing the same at work. Helps so much with the motivation!!

Keep up the good work!

go erin! i am cheering for you. i should probably start something like that too, i could do with shedding a few kilos (or more!) and everytime biggest loser is on i make plans to...of course nothing ever comes out of it. maybe i just need one of those *cute pink heart monitors to get me going!... :0)

That's a great goal to get you motivated. I might actually get the heart rate monitor thing too. Sounds like a good tool. Good luck to you and I hope that you win!!

Good luck! If you're one of those people who can do whatever you put your mind to then you're going to have no problem winning this competition!

I really enjoyed your family photos and trip to Thailand! It was fun to see a part of the world I've never visited and don't know very much about. How much fun to be there with your sisters too!

Congratulations on finishing the CPH! I hope Glee is working out well so far.

I just started working with a heart rate monitor too, for cycling. Before I used it, I worked a lot harder than I had to, and was probably not receiving much benefit. Now I feel like I'm working more efficiently, and for the first time in my life, I have leg muscles, LOL. Good luck to you in the competition -- I agree that nothing is better than a good competition for motivation!
